Preparing Your Child for Surgery Class

Help your child and their siblings prepare and understand about having surgery at a hospital.  A child life specialist  will explain details in an age-appropriate way. For example, toddlers and preschoolers need more simple explanations than older children. Class is for ages 3- 16 years of age.

The class will include:

• A tour of the surgery area
• Hands on learning about what to expect during surgery
• Medical play session with a Child Life Specialist to show equipment, smells, sights and sounds of surgery
• A video about what to expect during surgery
• Time for children and teens to express their feelings about their surgery
• Opportunity for parents to ask staff questions
