About Us
The Complex Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program at Primary Children’s Hospital is one of the few places in the United States offering multidisciplinary, coordinated care with medical, surgical, and ancillary teams for children, adolescents, and young adults diagnosed with IBD. We provide personalized, multidisciplinary, and evidence-based care to our patients at the Complex IBD Clinic. Many children will achieve remission of their IBD with medication and diet alone, and if surgery is needed, we have expert pediatric colorectal surgeons on our team. Your child will see multiple experts (based on need) at the same clinic visit, resulting in fewer clinic appointments. We focus on improving the quality of life for patients and their families by streamlining care coordination among specialties to provide positive outcomes and an excellent patient experience.
We have an established program with the Department of Gastroenterology that cares for hundreds of children with IBD and other GI conditions. Our clinic offers comprehensive care for children who require surgical intervention and/or escalation of medical IBD treatment. We provide care to ages 0-23, including during college/university/trade schools and religious missionary service. We help facilitate the transition to adult care when appropriate.
Our program was created in 2018 when our surgeon and gastroenterology colleagues identified a need for comprehensive surgical and medical care coordination for children diagnosed with IBD.
We have continued to grow our resources and team members to better provide excellent health outcomes.
