Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for Teens in Crisis

Is your teen struggling?

At Intermountain Health we understand the challenges faced by teenagers and their families. Our adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers comprehensive evaluation and intensive treatment for adolescents 13-17 struggling with their mental health.

This specialized program helps youth safely live at home while addressing behavioral, emotional, and social difficulties impacting their lives. Our treatment team works together to support adolescents in crisis, manage challenges and prevent future crisis.

Who we serve?

Our program supports teens and their families with a family-centered approach to manage life's stress and mental challenges. We assist teens struggling with:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Emotional imbalance
  • Relationship challenges
  • Stress management
  • Impulse control
  • Lack of motivation
  • Self-esteem

We recognize the profound impact of family dynamics. Our program actively engages families in decision-making and support systems. This involvement empowers both the youth and their families, fostering resilience and long-term positive outcomes.

Steps to recovery

Understanding the problem

Teens will explore personal social and biological factors that contribute to their struggles with special attention to what can lead to a crisis.

Learning new skills

Teens will learn healthy ways to handle challenges, regulate emotions, and manage difficult situations.

Creating a plan

Teens will develop a plan to use their new skills in everyday life so they can move forward with confidence.

Day Treatment Program Goals

Intermountain’s day treatment, partial hospitalization program, is dedicated to helping teens build real-life skills at home while continuing to gain knowledge and support through our comprehensive treatment approach.

Our program aims to achieve the following goals:

  • Reduction of self-defeating beliefs and behaviors
  • Improved coping skills and interpersonal relationships
  • Increased ability to recognize and regulate emotions
  • Decreased need for hospitalization

Treatment approach

Biological treatment (medication support)

A psychiatrist may prescribe medication to help balance brain chemistry and reduce symptoms that make recovery harder.

Psychological treatment (therapy and coping skills)

Through individual sessions and group therapy teens will explore their thoughts, emotions and behaviors. They will learn healthy coping strategies, challenge negative beliefs and build resilience.

Social treatment (support at home and school)

We work with teens and families to improve relationships and understand challenges at home/school. We provide education and therapy to strengthen and recognize support systems.
