Organizations are only as successful as their leaders
Companies value attracting and developing exceptional leaders. Many offer excellent training in strategy, innovation, finance, and supply chain. However, they often overlook essential leadership competencies.
Our focus is on developing trusted and effective leaders through a character-based curriculum.
Evidence shows character leads to the best outcomes.
The benefits of focusing on character are well documented by Fred Kiel, PhD, in his book Return on Character, Paul Zak , PhD, in his Harvard Business Review article "The Neuroscience of Trust", and many others.
Benefits of leaders with strong character include:
- Higher return on assets
- Higher productivity
- Better employee engagement and retention
- Less burnout
- Greater customer (or patient) satisfaction
- Stronger reputation
Our program focuses on the critical competencies of leadership itself.
Why our program helps develop principled leaders
Our program helps leaders become more effective and trusted through a focus on character and values

Our program complements your organization’s internal programs.
The Developing Trusted and Effective Leaders program is designed as a capstone leadership development experience to augment your institution’s own leadership development programs.
Our unique program cannot be duplicated in an in-house course.
We have expert faculty from highly respected institutions, learning experiences that encourage character development and application, and a unique cohort of leaders from several organizations with diverse experiences.
FAQ's
Questions about our program
While most leadership programs teach important competencies such as strategy, innovation, finance, and so on, the Institute’s program is unique in important ways. It explores timeless leadership principles, helping participants more fully develop the combination of competency and character that creates trust, defines effective leadership itself, and leads to positive, significant, and lasting change.
The program is not an Intermountain-focused curriculum, nor is it designed to be a source of net revenue to Intermountain. Rather, this is Intermountain’s gift to the future of healthcare by helping to develop trusted leaders. We take a “Switzerland” approach where our participants from respected academic and not-for-profit health systems combine with our diverse faculty in a highly interactive and collaborative curriculum to learn from one another in a candid, safe, immersive and invigorating environment.
The Leadership Institute is designed to be a “capstone” experience for high-potential leaders. It is not intended to compete with but instead complement and add to your own leadership development programs.
