Pennies by the Inch began as a program that encouraged kids to give to kids, collecting and donating pennies for every inch they were old on their birthday.

Today, the Pennies by the Inch campaign has expanded. Community groups, businesses, schools, congregations, and individuals can start their own personal fundraisers, collect donations door-to-door, host lemonade stands, auctions, and engage in other creative ways to support the hospital.

All we raise supports the area of greatest need at Primary Children’s – supporting Child Life, Expressive Therapies, the School Zone, and other key programs that are philanthropy-funded.

Brailey's Story

Brailey is an an active and involved teenager. She spends her days poolside with friends, plays club basketball with her sister, and volunteers her time to support causes she believes in.

On August 1, 2016, Brailey traumatically injured in a riding lawn mower accident. One moment she was a typical 4-year-old enjoying a summer day. The next, she was being rushed by ambulance to a local hospital, then life-flighted to Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital, where she would spend three days in the pediatric intense care unit and 25 days in the neurotrauma program.

Brailey sustained serious injuries that resulted in the loss of her right leg below the knee, as well as internal trauma. She underwent approximately 12 surgeries, multiple skin grafts, an ostomy reversal, and limb revision.

Brailey's rehabilitation and recovery journey was long. It included being fitted with a high-tech prosthetic leg that, today, enables her to walk and live the active life she loves.

Brailey underwent two more surgeries last summer at the new Primary Children's Hospital in Lehi. She will continue to require more revision surgeries throughout her growing years.

Thanks to the care she's received, Brailey is thriving today!

Brailey feels truly honored to be a part of something meaningful. Through every challenge, good days and bad, Primary Children's has never left her side.

Brailey is a shining star! Her story isn't a a tragedy. It's a powerful story of courage, hope, perseverance, and love.
