Saint Joseph Hospital is Magnet re-designated from January 18, 2022- February 1, 2026. Magnet designated hospitals are considered the gold standard for nursing practice and innovation. American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program provides the roadmap to advance nursing excellence through a collaborative culture. Magnet designation is based on maintaining the four components of Magnet recognition: Transformational Leadership, Structural Empowerment, Exemplary Professional Practice, and New Knowledge, Innovations, and Improvements. At SJH, we are proud of our dedicated caregivers who help create an environment that strives to provide excellent patient care. SJH will submit redesignation documents in February 2026.

at Saint Joseph Hospital
Who We Are
Our nurses have created a mission, vision and values that reflect who we are.
Our Care Delivery Model: Patient Centered Care
Our care delivery model at SJH is patient-centered care. In patient-centered care, caregivers partner with patients and families to identify the patient’s holistic needs.
Intermountain Health Nursing Professional Practice Model
A Nursing Professional Practice Model (NPPM) represents the foundation of nursing practice and provides the basis and purpose of our work. The NPPM reflects who, what, why and how we practice nursing. Intermountain Health Nursing Division collaborated on an enterprise-wide Nursing Professional Practice Model (NPPM). With multiple NPPMs across regions, and as nursing is completing integration and optimization work, over 3,000 nurses provided input on a framework that defines our nursing practice to guide the continued delivery of extraordinary patient care and support the development and empowerment of nurses as professionals.
Shared Governance
Shared governance is a dynamic associate & leader partnership that promotes collaboration, shared decision-making, and accountability for improving quality of care, safety and work life. Decision-making is based on evidence, facts and consensus for what is best for all.
Saint Joseph Hospital has an integrated Shared Governance structure consisting of the following councils:
- Professional Nurse Coordinating Council
- Unit Based Councils
- Research & Evidence-Based Practice Council
- Nursing Peer Review Council
- Nurse Practice Council
- Nurse Leadership Council
- Education Council
- Professional Development Council
Career Ladder Program
The Intermountain Health Career Ladder Program, iAspire, kicked off in 2024 and originates from nursing theorist, Dr. Patricia Benner's “novice to expert” theory, which centers around the competence of the nurse through stages: novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient, and expert.
The program offers a means for the bedside clinical nurse to advance in the nursing profession.
Additionally, the program:
- Fosters an environment of excellence in nursing care
- Recognizes accomplishments achieved by the clinical nurse
- Encourages professional development and accountability
- Increases retention
- Empowers ownership of practice
- Rewards and recognizes clinical nurses for their impact and the difference they make in safety, quality, their patients’ experiences, and professional practice
Saint Joseph Hospital is proud to have over 200 nurses currently at an achieved career ladder level!
A Message from our Chief Nursing Officer
At St Joseph Hospital, we value our outstanding nurses, whose dedication and expertise are at the heart of our commitment to nursing excellence. Their leadership and knowledge are integral to our mission and have played a key role in earning us recognition as one of America's Best Hospitals and a twice designated Magnet hospital. Not only are we celebrating 150 years of caring for our community, but this milestone also reminds us of the resilience and perseverance of our foundresses, the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, who blazed the path for us to this point. Looking ahead, our Mission remains the same not only to serve the poor and vulnerable, but also has newly expanded to “helping people live the healthiest lives possible” in alignment with Intermountain Health. Together, we continue to build on a legacy of excellence, while shaping the future of patient care.
