Cardiac rehabilitation is an education and exercise-based program designed to improve outcomes for patients who have experienced a cardiac event such as a heart attack, heart surgery, or a stent placement. Education classes include nutrition, medications, benefits of exercise, and risk factors for heart disease. Exercise is individualized and focused on improving strength, endurance, and heart health.
Pulmonary rehabilitation incorporates education and exercise with a focus of improving outcomes for individuals with lung disease including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, obstructive sleep apnea, and pulmonary hypertension. Education includes proper breathing techniques, pulmonary medications, stress management, and nutrition. Pulmonary rehabilitation classes meet twice a week. Exercise is focused on decreasing shortness of breath, learning proper breathing techniques, and increasing stamina.
The cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs are certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
