Job Shadows/Observations
A job shadow, also called an observation, is an opportunity for a student to observe a provider in a clinical setting. According to our policies, we only allow observations in our care sites if they are required as part of class curriculum or as a prerequisite to apply for another program.
Observations are allowed at Intermountain Health to meet a requirement for a current class or as a program prerequisite (for example, as part of the application process to Medical or PA school). Observational hours do not allow students to provide hands-on care to patients and are generally limited to 12 hours or the number of hours required for the class or program prerequisite. We don’t provide observation experiences for career exploration unless you are a current employee. Students who need to participate in an observation should complete this form and someone with Student Programs will be in touch.
